About This Course
Anyone can spin up an EC2 instance, launching one is the easy part. But keeping a production AWS environment in check, making sure it's secure, running cost-efficiently, and recoverable when disaster strikes, is a whole different ball game. That's exactly what this AWS SysOps Administrator training is all about, giving system administrators and operations pros the real-world skills they need to keep their cloud environment running like a well-oiled machine.
This course is no theory class,it's built specifically for sysadmins and ops pros who manage and maintain infrastructure on Amazon Web Services, diving deep into the practicalities of Deployment, Management, and Operations that keep your cloud environment up and running. You'll be getting hands-on with Amazon CloudWatch, automating infrastructure with CloudFormation, and managing config at scale with AWS Systems Manager.
But it's not just about monitoring and automation, this certification course will also be building your skills in Identity and Access Management (IAM), VPC networking and troubleshooting, cost optimisation, backup & disaster recovery, database management, and all the cloud security & compliance practices AWS ops teams are expected to enforce every single day. We're not just focusing on passing the exam, or even just writing a script or two, we're going to give you the kind of technical depth and troubleshooting skills you need to pass the real deal, including its performance-based components, and get you ready for the kind of real-world scenarios you'll see in the wild, not just on some practice test.
People often say "design is everything" but the truth of the matter is, an AWS environment can be all shiny and new but still fall apart in production if nobody's got their eyes on those CloudWatch alarms, hasn't got a tested backup and restore process, and can't even figure out why the monthly bill just went through the roof. This course isn't just about building a pretty picture, it's about getting down to the nitty-gritty of real-world cloud ops, where theory meets with messy reality and you've got to roll up your sleeves and deal with traffic spikes, failed deployments, misconfigured security groups, and that 2 am page that says "something's down". We're going to take that messy reality as our starting point, not some afterthought tacked onto a bit of architecture training.
You'll be getting to put your hands on the wheel with a real-world application, diagnosing why one's slow using CloudWatch Logs Insights, working through the ins and outs of setting up automated remediation with EventBridge so common issues sort themselves out before a human has to step in, and getting comfortable using Systems Manager to patch and configure fleets of instances without having to touch each one by hand.
More and more orgs are running production workloads on AWS these days, and the demand for this kind of cloud ops expertise is only going up as a result. Companies need people who can be trusted with the keys to a live environment, not just people who can spout off about how services fit together on paper, and that trust is built through the kind of hands-on practice this course provides.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Solutions Architect certification is all about designing AWS systems, deciding which services and architecture are right for a business problem, before you even start building. In practical terms, a Solutions Architect exam question might ask what storage solution is best for a given job, while a SysOps question hands you a deployment that's gone wrong or a cost spike and asks you to figure out where it went wrong and how to fix it. Lots of people end up with both certifications, as designing and running a system requires two different skill sets and knowing both makes you way better at either one on its own.
There's no need to have a traditional software development background to work in SysOps . Sure, you'll be working with AWS CLI commands, CloudFormation templates and automation scripts, that's more related to scripting and config work than writing real code. Being comfortable with the command line and able to read YAML or JSON is more important than having loads of coding experience. Of course, having some basic scripting skills, even something simple like Bash or Python, does help with the automation side of the job and is a skill worth picking up alongside your certification, rather than after.
Most people starting out in AWS start with AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner to get the basics under your belt, then pick between Solutions Architect Associate and this operations-focused certification depending on what they want to do in their career. Roles that are all about designing things tend to go for Solutions Architect, while those who get their hands dirty with operations, support and infrastructure do better to start with this certification. If you already work in an ops or sysadmin role, you can totally jump in here without doing Cloud Practitioner first, the fundamentals will all come together as you learn about monitoring, IAM and networking.
You might have seen the previous certification referred to as "SysOps Administrator Associate", but in 2025 it got officially renamed to "AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer - Associate", and the exam code changed from SOA-C02 to SOA-C03. Any existing SysOps Administrator certifications you might have are still valid until they expire, but if you're starting fresh now you'll take the new CloudOps Engineer exam, which is what this course is all about. The main topics of monitoring, reliability, deployment, security, networking and cost remain pretty much the same, so if you already have exam materials for the old version most of the underlying knowledge is still good to go, though you'll want to have a look for the newer stuff on containers and multi account architectures.
The DevOps Engineer Pro certification is built on top of this level of knowledge, but takes it a lot further by diving into the nitty-gritty of CI/CD pipelines, advanced automation and multi-account governance, all at an enterprise level. This associate-level op's cert is actually a pretty accessible starting point, giving you a solid foundation in things like monitoring, security and infrastructure mgmt before you move on to the more meaty, advanced stuff.
